Day 1

Rongai Gate → Rongai Cave

Your journey begins near the Kenyan border, at Rongai Gate, offering a completely different perspective of Kilimanjaro.

The trail passes through untouched rainforest, where wildlife sightings are possible and the environment feels remote and peaceful.

The hike is relatively gentle, allowing your body to adapt as you make your way to Rongai Cave Camp.

Day 2

Rongai Cave → Second Cave Camp

Day Highlights

🌄 Expanding views toward Kibo
🌿 Transition to moorland
⛰️ Gradual altitude gain

After breakfast, you continue your steady ascent toward Second Cave Camp.

As the forest fades, the landscape opens up, revealing impressive views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding plains.

This is a longer trekking day, but the gradual slope makes it manageable and enjoyable.

Day 3

Second Cave → Kikelewa Camp

Today’s trek is shorter but more scenic as you move toward the dramatic landscapes near Mawenzi Peak.

The trail becomes steeper, but you are rewarded with incredible views and a sense of isolation rarely found on other routes.

Camp is set near Kikelewa, surrounded by unique vegetation and mountain scenery.

Day 4

Kikelewa Camp → Mawenzi Tarn

You ascend to Mawenzi Tarn, one of the most beautiful camps on Kilimanjaro.

Set beneath the jagged peaks of Mawenzi, this location offers breathtaking views and a perfect environment for acclimatization.

The afternoon can be spent resting or exploring nearby trails to help your body adjust to the altitude.

Day 5

Mawenzi Tarn → Kibo Hut

🌌 Prepare for summit night

You cross the vast saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, a lunar-like desert landscape with incredible scale.

The terrain becomes more rugged and exposed as you approach Kibo Hut, your base for the summit attempt.

You’ll rest early and prepare mentally for the night ascent.

Day 6

Kibo Hut → Summit → Horombo Hut

🌅 Sunrise at Uhuru Peak
🏆 Reach the Roof of Africa

Your summit push begins shortly after midnight.

You climb slowly toward Gilman’s Point, where the sunrise over Mawenzi is unforgettable. From there, you continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

After celebrating, you descend to Horombo Hut, where you enjoy your last night on the mountain.

Day 7

Horombo Hut → Marangu Gate → Moshi

Day Highlights

🌿 Long descent through rainforest
🎉 Receive summit certificate
🚿 Return and celebrate

On your final day, you descend through lush rainforest to Marangu Gate.

Here, you receive your summit certificate before transferring back to Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved rest and celebration.
